The National Police Service yesterday said former Coast regional CID boss Henry Ondiek and port police boss Zacchaeus Nge’no have been transferred, not sacked.

On Tuesday, the government announced the two officers had been dismissed alongside five top Kenya Ports Authority managers over graft allegations at the port.

The five KPA bosses fired are: Gichiri Ndua (managing director) Twalib Khamis (operations), Justus Nyarandi (corporate services), Muthoni Gatere (legal services) and head of security Major (Rtd) Mohamed Morowa.

However, police spokesperson Charles Owino clarified that Ondiek and Ngeno “have been moved in just a normal police transfer”.

Ondiek has been moved to Nairobi CID headquarters as the new boss, taking over from Nicholas Kamwende, who is the new Coast CID boss.

Nge’no has been transferred to Vigilant House under the Personnel Directorate at the police headquarters in Nairobi.

The Star has established that Ondiek reported to his office at the CID headquarters in Nairobi.
