Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga yesterday urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to initiate meaningful national projects in Nyanza.

She said Uhuru is “preoccupied with harambees and funerals”.

Ruth questioned the President’s agenda in the Lakeside city, saying his numerous trips are of no major benefit to the residents and are full of unfulfilled promises.

“Whenever the President visits regions outside Nyanza, he launches projects aimed at empowering the youth,” Ruth said on the phone. She said Uhuru presides over groundbreaking ceremonies of universities.

Ruth said the people of Kisumu and Nyanza as a whole will judge Jubilee based on its development projects.

“Many youth and women still lack jobs. Fundraisers alone cannot help much,” she said.

Ruth said stalled companies need to be revived.

In August last year, Uhuru feted national music festivals winners at Kisumu State Lodge before returning in November for a fundraiser to aid St Stephen’s ACK.
