ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi should join Cord to consolidate the opposition and remove the “dysfunctional Jubilee from power”, Vihiga Senator George Khaniri has said.

He said Mudavadi should swallow his pride and compete within Cord for the presidential ticket.

“The Luhya community should not be a lone ranger like we were in 2013 because the Jubilee government has terribly failed in administration and must just go,” Khaniri said.

He spoke on Monday in Malinya village, Ikolomani subcounty during the burial of Henry Khayodi, the brother of Kakamega Senator Bonny Khalwale.

Mudavadi has said he will run for president in 2017 on the ANC ticket.

Khaniri said Cord is the alternative government.

He said giving Jubilee another term will be disastrous.

Khalwale said presidential candidates who want to ascend to power on the strength of their communities alone will fail under the new constitution.

“The constitution requires that for one to be declared president he must receive support from across Kenya and that is why I will go with Raila Odinga, Moses Wetang’ula and Kalonzo Musyoka in 2017,” he said.

Khaniri said devolution is not benefiting Kenyans due to rampant corruption in county governments.

He said governors must be ready to be summoned by the Senate whenever audit queries arose.

Khaniri said calls to change the election date from the second Tuesday of August are premature.
