Gladys Shollei trial to start in May

TWO cases against former chief registrar of judiciary Gladys Shollei and seven other persons will be heard in May.

Trial magistrate Felix Kombo directed that the cases be heard from May 10 and 24.

The eight are charged with abuse of office in awarding Timsales Ltd the tender for construction of Runyenjes Court Station without following procurement laws, leading to an Sh18.3 million loss.

They allegedly awarded a direct tender to Timsales Ltd and increased the advance down payment to the company from 10 per cent to 50 per cent.

Shollei and three others face a charge of abuse of office for changing terms and conditions of a contract awarded to Timsales Ltd without the Tender Committee's approval.

They were each freed on Sh300,000 bond.
