THE Commission for University Education board wants to sack CEO David Some for “non-performance”.

While Some’s tenure ends on September 2017, CUE chairman Henry Thairu said the board unanimously agreed his performance since September 2012 has been below par.

“The position should be advertised for a results-oriented candidate,” Thairu said at a December 21 board meeting.

The board plans to sack him and offer him six months salary and house allowance in lieu of notice as required by his contract.

The contract also provides he be paid a gratuity of 31 per cent of his annual basic salary.

Documents show CUE contracted Africa Corporate Governance Advisory Services to review the CEO’s performance.

The company returned low scores on his timely presentation of university quality audits reports to the commission, teamwork and proper delegation within the commission.

CUE accuses Some of blocking commissioners from inspecting universities, and disobeying the board and the Education CS.

Some said performance reviews are only carried out by the Public Service Commission.

“Again, it is the only one mandated to investigate and initiate disciplinary action,” he said.

Some said he has not seen the report on his performance review.
