Coast ball queens placed in tough pool in Bungoma

Defending girls basketball champions Coast have been placed in a tough group for this year’s Kenya secondary schools Term One Games which take place in Bungoma, Nzoia region in April.

According to the draws released by the KSSSA secretary David Ngugi, Coast who have held onto the trophy for the past three years are in group A which also has Nzoia region, Metro region and Highland.

Coas, Nzoia and metro have been exchanging the girls basketball trophy for over a decade with coast dominating with a most wins.

Group “B” has Lake region, Northern,Aberdares and Rift Valley region.

The boys basketball draws have placed defending champions Lake Region in a tricky group B which also has Highland, Nzoia and Coastal region’s while group A has Mau region, Metro region Abadares and Northern.

Hockey boys defending champions Mau region is in group A which also has Nzoia 1 ,Lake and Abadares while group B has Nzoia 2, Coastal, Metro and Highland region.

The girls hockey draws saw Nzoia, 1, Lake region, Mau and Coastal in group A while group B has Nzoia 2, Aberdares, Highlands and Metro.

Rugby 15 will also be competitive at group level with Nzoia 1, Highlands, Lake and Mau battling it out in group A while group “B” will have Nzoia 2, Abadares, Coastal and metro.

The host region will produce two teams in Hockey and Rugby since the Northern region never sends teams in those disciplines.

Meanwhile Friends School Kamusinga Boy’s High School will host the Term One games between April 10-17.

Kamusinga school games teacher Emmanuel Sanya confirmed they are looking forward to hosting a successful event.

“As far as we have featured in the games for a while now, there is something that comes with being the host and we are happy that KSSSA have settled on us. Last year we were ousted

at the regional level. We hope to bounce back bigger and better,” Sanya, who also doubles as the school’s hockey team coach, said.

He added, “Some of our six best players finished their ‘O’ levels last year and as much as we will miss their services, we have other good players who have shown intent to do well and we can only hope for the

best.”

The players who left the school include Caleb Barasa, Tobias Itaru, Christopher Mutuku, Eric Kuloba, Sammy Simiyu and Sutcliffe Usagi.

At the same time, Sanya noted that the school will host the annual Allan Bradley Memorial tournament this weekend. The event is staged to pay tribute to the founding father of the school Allan Bradley.Agnes D.Makhandia
