SPREADING HATE? Lamu politician Rishad Amana speaks to the Star in his office yesterday.

Politician Rishad Amana has criticised Lamu West MP Julius Ndegwa for saying non-local herders should be chased out of the county.

Speaking in his Mombasa office yesterday, he said Ndegwa should be prosecuted for incitement.

“We have been living with our pastoralist neighbours for years and they come to Lamu with their cattle because of drought,” Amana said.

“Saying they are responsible for insecurity in Lamu is absurd because we have lived with them for years until recently, when these problems emerged.”

Amana urged Governor Issa Timamy to take action against Ndegwa.

On Saturday, Ndegwa said the presence of many herders from other counties has led to insecurity.

He said a government directive issued in early January requiring pastoralists in Bodhei, Pandanguo, Witu and Pangani to return to their homes must be respected.

Most of the herders come from Garissa and Tana River counties.

The directive aimed to extend Operation Linda Boni to Lamu West subcounty.
