THE Kenya Revenue Authority has increased the tax it is demanding from former City Hall finance officer Jimmy Kiamba from Sh98 million to Sh262 million.

KRA wants Kiamba to pay unpaid taxes for years 2007 to 2013.

The court has frozen his Sh400 million assets, following a disagreement on how KRA can claim the arrears.

During a hearing yesterday at Milimani, Nairobi, judge Fredrick Ochieng said Kiamba's bank accounts will remain frozen.

Kiamba's lawyer Philip Nyachoti had asked for some money from the frozen accounts for his client's survival.

Last month, KRA, through lawyer Sylvester Okelo, said the law does not have an avenue for an alternative dispute resolution to recover tax on property lacking ownership documents.

“My orders cannot be ignored. You had agreed to talk and you cannot come back and say the law does not allow,” Ochieng said.

The ruling will be delivered on on March 31.
