A legislator has accused governors of planning to steal roads funds.

Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani said they will not allow governors to control roads that are supposed to be managed by the national government.

“We know their aim is to steal money meant for construction and repair of roads... but we will not let them,” he said.

Mwashetani said governors are fighting MPs over roads because they want to control billions of shillings.

“They have even gone to court but we are telling them as the legislature we are going to do our work and change class D roads to C so that they can only manage class E roads,” he said.

“We have the powers to make and amend laws.”

The MP spoke on Friday in Lunga Lunga.

Recently Senate Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura said the House recommended that Classes A, B and C be classified as national roads and Class D and E be under counties.
