INDEPENDENT WOMEN: Nominated Senator Emma Mbura in Mombasa last December 28.

Nominated Senator Emma Mbura caused laughter on Saturday when she urged women to deny their husbands sex for a week if they frustrate their efforts to register to vote.

She spoke to residents at Mazeras, Kilifi county.

Mbura said the time has come for women to determine who will lead them.

She said women must register to vote to have a say in the polls.

Mbura said women and children bear the brunt of bad leadership but women can reverse the trend by voting.

“Gone are the days when our husbands used to dictate terms on us, especially matters concerning leaders. This time we need to independently decide our destiny,” she said.

The Jubilee senator praised women for intensifying table banking activities.

This has not only improved their lives but also proven that they can be independent, she said.

Mbura also rooted for Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro’s governor bid.

She said Mung’aro is better placed to lead Kilifi residents.

“I have a goodwill message from my governor but not the incumbent. Receive greetings from Gideon Mung’aro who has said he will soon tour this area to campaign and I urge you to elect him,” Mbura said.

Mung’aro has already declared he will face Governor Amason Kingi and former Labour CS Kazungu Kambi in the poll.

Mbura’s intensified visits to her Kilifi county home have raised speculation she could be eyeing the woman representative seat.

The seat is held by Aisha Jumwa.

“I am here today and I promise to come back so that we come up with strategies of making your lives better because that is what I stand for,” she said.
