CITY Hall has launched a visionary 10-year strategic plan, but already some are saying it was late in coming.

The plan was launched by Governor Evans Kidero on Friday in Naivasha.

The plan aims to transform Nairobi into a modern city, “like New York”, between 2015 and 2025.

The plan covers poverty alleviation and improving living conditions.

On Thursday, some Nairobi MCAs said it should been delivered and implemented sooner.

MCAs, who attended the launch, said they were asked by the executive to support the plan and not to fight the executive during its implementation.

Karura MCA Kamau Thuo said the plan comes late in the day and although it is good on paper, the executive needs to implement it to the letter.

He said city residents needs to see implementation and not grand strategic plans unfurled.

“To capitalise on its strengths and face its challenges, Nairobi must strengthen its position to unlock its full potential,” Kidero said.

He said it is important to develop and maintain world-class infrastructure, establish a stable business climate and an attractive living environment to retain and attract a talented workforce.

“The county must also accommodate the rapidly growing population by providing affordable housing, education and health services to all residents,” Kidero said.

He said the 10-year strategic plan is a milestone in the development of Nairobi county.

Kidero said he aims to develop a prosperous, innovative, diverse and attractive urban centre, which will be a city of choice for investment, work and living.

County secretary Robert Ayitsi said the strategic plan is special as it is coupled with the new budget cycle.

He said this allows them to bring forward the strategic initiatives in line with the resources needed to implement them in an affordable, concise and responsible way.
