HEALTH Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu has ordered the shutting down of illegal health facilities.

He spoke yesterday during a tour of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists complex.

Mailu urged the board to renew its vigour in cracking down quack health professionals and their premises.

He termed fake doctors and uncertified health facilities an embarrassment to the sector.

“Quacks will keep emerging but the faster we get them before they set shop, the quicker we will make the difference,” Mailu said.

“We must ensure health institutions don’t become business kiosks,” he said.

Mailu told the board it has the responsibility to ensure Kenyans are safe from rogue and quack practitioners.

He called on the public to report practitioners whom they suspect of malpractice.

Mailu said the ministry will in July launch an e-platform where the public can search names of practitioners to ascertain their competency.

Board chairman George Magoha urged the government to upgrade the cancer machines at the Kenyatta National Hospital to alleviate the burden.
