ODM rebel MPs at the Coast say the party has no legitimate leaders and they rejected disciplinary action against them for supporting Jubilee.

Led by Coast Parliamentary Group chairman Gideon Mung’aro, they said they will only accept party disciplinary letters and resign if ODM holds fair National Executive Council elections.

The Kilifi North MP said they do not recognise party chairman John Mbadi, leader Raila Odinga and Kilifi county chairman Amason Kingi, as they were not elected according to the party rules.

Mung’aro told ODM to first hold its NEC elections before writing “threatening letters”.

“If ODM conducts elections then we shall take the letters because in my understanding, there is no ODM secretary general, party leader or chairman,” he said.

Mung’aro and five other Coast MPS were at a rally on Wednesday to campaign for Jubilee candidate for the Malindi by-election, Phillip Charo.

Others in the Kakuyuni rally were MPs Mustafa Idd of Kilifi South, also one of the ODM rebels, Gonzi Rai of Kinango, Harrison Kombe of Magarini, Naomi Shaban of Taveta and Lunga Lunga’s Khatib Mwashetani.

Mung’aro said they are campaigning for Charo as Coast legislators, not as Jubilee.

The by-election is scheduled for March 7.

Mung’aro said ODM leaders appointed themselves in a boardroom after the elections turned chaotic in Kasarani, Nairobi.
