One of the many KDF soldiers killed by al Shabaab at El Adde, Somalia, on January 15 has been buried in Kiambu county.

Albert Thiong’o, 25, was laid to rest on Wednesday in Karai village, Gatamaiyu location.

“Albert, we will miss your humour, the jovial mood you had and advice you gave,” his tearful widow Mary Nyambura said.

The couple have a nine-month-old son Carlos Chege.

Lt Col Nyatigo Marwanga described Thiong’o as a dedicated, loyal and self-driven soldier in his five years in the service.

“The force and the country at large has lost a dedicated, loyal and a trustworthy soldier who had a bright future. He died on an important mission,” he said.

Marwanga urged society to support the government in the war against al Shabaab by providing information to police and advising their young children about the enemy.

“The war on terror can only be won when we take part in the war. You must educate your children on which people to associate with in society and also to report unusual people and happenings to police,” the officer said.

Nyanduma MCA Mburu Gitiha said society has lost a creative young person who was a leader and a mentor.

“Young people, including those older and younger than him, would visit him for advice. He was adored by many,” he said.

The funeral service was led by Pastor Obadiah Waithuki and KDF Reverend James Wanyoike.

Lari MP Mburu Kahangara said terrorists are everyone’s greatest enemy.

“Let us not criticise or even discuss the attack with people we do not know. It is even better to keep quiet,” he said.

“They are enemies who pretend to be innocent but they take advantage and laugh at us.”

Kahangara urged Kenyans to pray for the families of the slain soldiers, and also for the troops who are in Somalia.
