CS tells internet firms to fight cybercrime

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has told internet service providers to lead the war on cybercrime and protect youth from explicit content.

He urged the private sector to collaborate with the government to create awareness on responsible internet use.

“We need to empower teachers and parents with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively guide children on the use of the internet ,” Mucheru said.

He spoke on Wednesday during the launch of Airtel’s free internet for schools programme at Machakos Boys High School.

Mucheru praised Airtel for improving access to information.

He said the government will provide a positive legal and regulatory environment for ICT to thrive.

“The internet will give students access to a new world of opportunities,” Mucheru said.
