Cord leader Raila Odinga next Monday will escort ODM candidate for the Malindi parliamentary by-election Willy Mtengo to the IEBC’s office to present his nomination papers.

Raila will be accompanied by co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetang’ula.

Afterwards, the leaders will campaign in the constituency ahead of the March 7 mini-poll.

ODM deputy leader Hassan Joho, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi, MPs and MCAs will be in Raila’s entourage.

Sources privy to the itinerary said Raila is expected in Malindi, Kilifi county, on Sunday after opening the new Mavindini Secondary School in Msambweni constituency, Kwale county.

Political parties were to hold primaries for the by-election and interparty dispute resolutions on or before January 22.

Presentation of nomination papers to the IEBC will take place on Monday and Tuesday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta recently spent 29 days at the Coat.

“Raila will not spend that much,” the source said.

The Malindi seat fell vacant after MP Dan Kazungu was appointed the Mining Cabinet Secretary.

Jubilee candidate Philip Charo is also expected to present his papers, accompanied by Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung’aro.

Deputy President William Ruto is also expected to accompany Charo, but there is no official confirmation yet.
