Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga has been told to respect the presidency and stop inciting other governors to remove President Uhuru Kenyatta’s portrait in their offices.

Kiambu Governor William Kabogo said on Tuesday President Uhuru is a symbol of national unity and his portrait is supposed to be displayed in all national and county government offices.

“The presidency unifies all county government’s, regardless of the parties their governors belong to. Inciting other governors not to display Uhuru's portrait is uncalled for,” he said.

Kabogo said Rasanga is misleading other governors, to "appear as if they do not belong to this country".

“The President should be respected because he unites everyone. Failing to display the portrait is tantamount to inciting members of the public not respect the government of the day. The national and county government’s work hand in hand,” he said.

Kabogo was speaking at Victoria Gardens in Kikuyu town when he presented cheques from Kiambu Biashara Fund to youth and women groups.

“What position does Raila hold in government to warrant his portrait to be displayed in offices?” the governor asked.

Kabogo urged Cord governors not to follow Rasanga’s proposal.

“Governments must at all time uphold and follow the law, but not to bend it, incite people and insult other leaders,” he said.

He was accompanied by Youth and Sports executive Machel Waikenda, chief officer Marrie Mugo and Kiambu Biashara Fund chairman Alan Muigai.

On Saturday during a joint memorial of Jaramogi Oginga and Raila's son Fidel Odinga in Bondo, Siaya county, Rasanga said he has replaced Uhuru's portrait with that of the Cord leader in his office.

He asked other Cord governors to follow suit as to show loyalty to Raila.
