Wajir county on Monday got a second mobile clinic as part of First Lady Margret Kenyatta's

Beyond Zero campaign.

The county became the first to be awarded two clinics, following the successful use that has seen a reduction in maternal deaths and mother to child HIV

transmission.

The first mobile clinic benefited more than 8,000 adults and 11,657 children.

Operations using the mobile clinic, flagged off by Rukia Abdinasir, wife of Wajir Governor

Ahmed Abdullahi,

will begin in Hubsoy Town.

It is as equipped as level three hospitals, with a pharmacy, consultation office, laboratory and maternity section.

Abdinasir said:

"We want to change the narrative that Kenya is the worst place to be pregnant and give birth by bringing services closer to the most remote place and aiding pastoralists even when they are on the move."

County Executive Committee of Health member Rukia Maalim lauded NGOs and corporates for supporting the Beyond Zero campaign by providing equipment and helping during emergencies.

"Together, we can inspire the importance of collective action and responsibility. Our main focus must be pulling resources to save lives," Maalim said.
