Jubilee leaders want Cornel Rasanga arrested and prosecuted over his call for Cord Governors to replace the President's portrait with the Opposition leader's.

Rasanga, who is Siaya Governor, said all the 24 Governors should demonstrate honour to Cord leadership by hanging its leader's portrait in their offices.

JAP national vice chairperson David Murathe noted that it is illegal for any Kenyan to demand the replacement of the President’s portrait with that of a leader who has not been elected.

“The Governor should be arrested immediately and charged with treason. His statement is an attempt to overthrow an elected President, Murathe told The Star on phone on Monday.

“He should be in by now [sic]. This reckless talk must not be tolerated. Action must be taken for any leader and individual to respect the Presidency."

Murathe was the director of UK Centre that was President Uhuru’s campaign secretariat ahead of the 2013 general election.

Deputy secretary general Caleb Kositany said Rasanga "stooped too low while there are pressing development issues" he could have addressed for the sake of the people of Siaya.

"He can say what he wants to and do as he likes but Uhuru remains the elected head of state," he said.

URP activist George Ayugi said the President must be protected at all costs as he is a symbol of national unity.

"Respecting the Presidency is not a favour any Kenyan is doing Uhuru; it is the law," he said.

URP youth league Vice President Victor Ayugi cautioned leaders against making statements that he termed derogatory and reckless, adding the law must take its course.

He faulted Cord leader Raila Odinga for failing to condemn Rasanga for the remarks issued at a memorial service for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga and Fidel Odinga in Bondo on Saturday.

During the memorial at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga university grounds, that it take a courageous man to make the replacement.

"We only need to hang our portraits as Governors and that of Raila in our offices. The other one (President Uhuru Kenyatta’s) we don’t need," he said.

“You remember I was the only one, of all the Governors in the country, who declared a public holiday when we launched our Okoa Kenya drive. The matter went to the Senate and Orengo (Siaya Senator) defended it as lawful," he noted.
