TWO Elgeyo Marakwet county leaders say there is a plot to tarnish their community’s name.

They said the bribe allegations against Supreme Court judge Philip Tunoi is part of a succession plot.

Former Eldoret East MP Margaret Kamar and Elgeyo Marakwet minority leader Benson Kitire said it is suspicious that the allegation is being made now yet the “bribe” was allegedly given in 2014.

She spoke yesterday at Iten Polytechnic.

Kamar said: “We suspect this is a plot against Tunoi. Where has Geoffrey Kiplagat been all this time? Why did he all over sudden come out with his complaints? This raises a lot of big question marks.”

The two said Gladys Shollei, ‘a daughter’ of Elgeyo Marakwet, was also hounded out of office.

Shollei, the former chief registrar of the judiciary is facing an abuse of office charge.

Journalist Geoffrey Kiplagat has said he acted as an intermediary between Tunoi and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

He said Tunoi took a Sh200 million bribe to rule in favour of Kidero in a petition filed by Ferdinand Waititu contesting his election as governor.

Both Tunoi and Kidero deny the allegation.
