There was jubilation at the Milimani law courts yesterday when Titus Musila, a policeman accused of killing two men in Githurai in 2014, was freed after Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko paid his Sh1 million bail.

The arrest of Musila, alias Katitu, provoked a three-day protest on the Thika Superhighway.

He walked free to a warm reception from hundreds of matatu drivers and conductors who had thronged the court accompanying Sonko.

Though he will be free pending his murder trial, Musila has been ordered by the court not to go anywhere near Githurai or Kasarani.

Sonko said Musila is a good officer who helped to fight crime in Githurai.

“We know and believe Katitu is a good police officer and we know justice will prevail. We believe the court will find no evidence and acquit him of the murder charges,” he said.

The officer is on trial for the murder of Kenneth Kimani and his brother Oscar Muchoki.

He has been in remand since September 2014.

The case will be heard on February 8.
