Two candidates running for Kericho senator yesterday accused Jubilee of planning to tamper with the by-election on March 7.

Kanu’s Paul Sang and Bishop Daniel Tanui of National Vision Party said they will sue the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission if the poll is tilted.

The two say Jubilee plans to rig the election in favour of its candidate Aaron Cheruiyot.

Speaking to the press separately in Kericho town, they said Jubilee plans to distribute national ID cards at Kericho county offices to rig the poll.

Sang said IEBC officials are targeting Bureti subcounty “where I enjoy more than 90 per cent support”.

The former Health minister said uncollected ID cards could be used to create a new voters register.

“The intention to tamper with the register is aimed at locking out some other voters from voting in our strongholds so their preferred candidate sails through,” Sang said.

“We are warning them that we are not going to accept this.”

Tanui said: “We are asking our voters to report anything strange concerning the poll so it is corrected before D-Day.”

However, Jubilee member, and Ainamoi MP Benjamin Langat, rejected the claims.

“These candidates should be busy campaigning instead of introducing non-existent issues to whip up emotions and get sympathy,” he said.
