CORD leader Raila Odinga yesterday ended wrangles over the Homa Bay ODM branch chairperson position.

He declared Homa Bay woman representative Gladys Wanga the duly elected chairperson.

Her main opponent in the county elections, Homa Bay MP Opondo Kaluma, is organising secretary.

Raila said Kasipul MP Oyugi Magwanga is the branch secretary while Homa Bay Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata is deputy chairperson.

He spoke at Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay, when he presided over its commission.

Raila said there is no need to fight over party positions.

He said leaders should focus on the 2017 general election.

“We must work together to strengthen our party,” Raila said.

Wanga’s and Kaluma’s factions have been at loggerheads over the branch leadership.

Each side declared their teams the duly elected officials.

“We all know we can only have one chairperson. Kaluma and Wanga are all my people and I want you to work together,” Raila said.

He said the branch chairperson will not issue the nomination certificates.

Raila said the exercise will be done in Nairobi in a transparent manner.

The ceremony was attended by ODM national chairman John Mbadi, Governor Cyprian Awiti, Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo and several MCAs.

Raila urged his supporters to take IDs and register as voters.

“I urge our party supporters to come out and register in large numbers. In Homa Bay we should have more than one million registered voters,” he said.

Wanga has already initiated a programme to register voters.
