Religious exorcists on Wednesday undressed to carry out a cleansing ritual in Samia subcounty.

They were invited by residents to stop deaths and disappearances in Sidabali, Nabuganda A and B, Butemula and Busia Hills in Bwiri ward.

The exorcists, led by Fredrick Ogerem, retrieved witchcraft paraphernalia hidden in an old dry borehole known as Ediba Lya Anjere.

The paraphernalia included more than 20 women’s underpants, combs, toothbrushes and a huge cow horn.

Nabuganda sublocation chief Sammy Omanyo said residents were living in fear so they resorted to the exorcists.

The deaths and mysterious disappearances started in December and lasted until the first week of January, Omanyo said.

He said villagers suspect many of the deaths were not from natural causes.

Omanyo said villagers linked the deaths and disappearances to black magic and witchcraft.

The exorcists are from the Spiritual Life Centre, under the Field Work Evangelism Ministry, whose headquarters is in Turbo.
