South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya yesterday asked National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich to produce a crucial money transfer document that will unravel the Eurobond mystery.

He said the Treasury is yet to produce the SWIFT bank transfer to confirm Sh88 billion transferred to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York by JP Morgan Chase Bank was received by the Central Bank of Kenya.

Nyamweya addressed a press conference at Parliament Buildings.

“Politics aside, this is an automatically generated document that confirms money was credited at the CBK, including the dates. It is the only valid document that can end this debate,” he said.

SWIFT – the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunications – is a vast messaging network used by banks and other financial institutions to quickly, accurately, and securely send and receive information, such as money transfer instructions, through a standardized system of codes.

Nyamweya said if the ministry fails to publicise the SWIFT document, this will confirm Kenya has lost the billions in what the opposition has termed “a grand robbery”

“It was unpatriotic, illegal and unconstitutional to have opened and domiciled an account in a foreign country instead of opening one at the Central Bank of Kenya,” he said.

Nyamweya said the documents the CS has released make no sense.
