The Interior ministry has set up WhatsApp accounts for Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and PS Karanja Kibicho.
The ministry said on Monday that the numbers 0719 777719 (Nkaissery) and 0780 719750 (Kibicho) were strictly for WhatsApp and SMS messages.
The launch is aimed at enabling the public to easier reach the security officials with, for example,
inquiries on their roles and information on security.
This is in the wake of the attack on Kenya Defence Forces soldiers in El Adde, Somalia, and an intensified war on terror.
The two officials are also available on Twitter and Instagram, via @GenNkaissery and @kibichokaranja, and on Facebook.
The 2016 'World Leaders on Facebook study' published by Burson-Marsteller found that governments were becoming savvier and more professional in the use of social media.
The survey ranked President Uhuru Kenyatta the on social media, for hitting the two million likes mark.
