Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed after a fire razed a section of the dormitory at Nakuru Boys High School.
Nakuru subcounty education officer Eunice Khaemba yesterday said the fire broke out at 8pm on Wednesday when students were in class.
No student was injured.
Speaking to the Star, Khaemba said the part that was destroyed was accommodating 42 students.
“Two cubicles were completely destroyed,” she said.
Khaemba said the school administration has arranged alternative accommodation.
She said initial investigations indicate the fire might have been caused by an electric fault.
The officer said firefighters from the Nakuru government arrived fast and contained the blaze with the help of the students.
“Counseling sessions have been organised for the affected students. We call on well-wishers to offer assistance,” Khaemba said.
She said an assessment will be carried out and a report sent to the ministry headquarters.
“Investigations are underway. We will give out the details once the report is out,” Khaemba said.
Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto asked well-wishers to donate mattresses and blankets.
“This is an unfortunate incident,” he said.
