Two suspected thugs were shot dead after attempting to steal from a journalist in

Eastleigh estate, Nairobi county, on Sunday night.

The journalist had alighted from a bus and was on his way home when five armed men accosted him,

said Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome.

Speaking to the Star on phone, Koome recounted that the victim shouted for help while the gang approached him.

He said officers manning the area heard him and responded. Two attackers were killed while three escaped with injuries, he said.

Koome said a pistol and a dagger were found alongside a mobile phone and spectacles stolen from the journalist.

He said investigations were launched.

On Monday, a

in the abdomen by a gunman who did not steal anything from him.

Koome said the student was accosted while walking on a lonely path between Kenyatta National Hospital and Strathmore University.
