A police corporal was accosted by boda boda operators who raided Embulmbul town AP camp claiming one of the officers had stolen his motorbike.

The riders who numbered more than 15 attempted to break into the munitions store in the Sunday evening incident which took about ten minutes.

The camp is manned by three APs.

Witnesses said the operators searched the AP camp office for the lost motorbike but when they failed to get it, broke windows of an Inspector’s house before leaving in a huff.

They then called for reinforcement from their colleagues in Ngong town and together with their leader only identified as Maina, proceeded to the nearby Kerarapon AP camp.

Ngong police officers led by OCS Rennison Ngambo thwarted the Kerarapon raid and arrested 38 of the 50 operators.

They were held at Ngong police station and were expected to appear in Kibera court Monday afternoon.

Kajiado North Deputy county commissioner, Kahiro Mwangi, said the Embulmbul camp raid was sparked off by a rumour amongst the operators that an AP officer stole the motorbike.

Mwangi said the operator claimed he carried a person who had identified himself as an AP officer from Ngong to Embulmbul.

The rider said on arrival at Embulmbul, that the alleged AP officer asked to use the motorbike to rush to the camp but it was never returned.

Mwangi said the operator made several calls prompting other riders to converge at Embulmbul a

little after 5pm on Sunday.

“No officer was injured in the raid because the riders left after they failed to get the person they claimed had been given the motorbike. I am thanking the police officers who intercepted those riders who were headed to Kerarapon,” said Mwangi.

Residents who talked to the Star from Embulmbul said most boda boda operators are former members of the outlawed Mungiki sect and "use the business as a decoy to confuse the public".

Police sources confirmed to the Star that more than 5 people had been lynched by boda boda operators on claims they were thugs.
