The Indian High Commission marked a unique double celebration at the Apa Pant Auditorium at High Commission of India Complex, Wangapala Road, Highridge, Nairobi on Saturday morning. High commissioner Ms Suchitra Durai led Indian residents in Kenya to commemorate both Vishwa Hindi Divas (World Hindi Day) and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas ( Non-Resident Indian Day).
Vishwa Hindi Divas celebrates the Hindi language around the world. It was started when the first world Hindi Conference was organised in Nagpur, India on January 10, 2006. Since it is marked annually as the World Hindi Day.
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas recognises the contribution of the overseas Indian community to the development of India. It commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Bombay on January 9,1915.
