Chama Cha Uzalendo leader Wavinya Ndeti has called on the anti-graft agency to investigate Maendeleo Chap Chap funding.

She urged the DPP and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to ensure Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is not using public resources for the campaign.

In a press briefing at her Nairobi office on Saturday, Ndeti said Mutua has been travelling to other counties to open branch offices for his new movement.

Ndeti lost the governor race to Mutua in the March 4, 2013 general election.

She said it is not enough for Mutua to say his campaigns are funded by friends and well-wishers.

Ndeti said Mutua should tell Machakos residents who the friends are.

“When and where did they meet and how much have they contributed towards his agenda,” she said.

Ndeti urged Mutua to stop seeking court injunctions to stop prosecution over alleged illegal purchase of 14 county vehicles.

“If the governor thinks he has nothing to hide why should he not allow the court to clear his name,” she said.

In an interview on Citizen TV last Wednesday, Mutua said he sought a court interpretation of his case because of the malicious intent in it.

“I am not blocking the case; all I want is for the courts to interpret whether as governor I should be responsible for what my officers did,” he said.

Mutua said his movement is about development and not politics.

He denied using public funds to mobilise people to Maendeleo Chap Chap rallies and to tour other counties.
