Smarting sugarmillers target revenge on home turf against top of the table Kenya Harlequin in Kakamega

Out of form of Kabras RFC face top of the table Quins at the Kakamega showground targeting revenge as the Kenya Cup league resumes after the Christmas and New Year break at 4pm.

The first leg in November at the RFUEA ground saw Quins win 21-17 with a last minute try.

The Sugar millers have made an inconsistent start in their campaign despite being billed as one of the favourites to clinch the leaguem title. They have won only one match, against Bungoma Sharks (87-3) and lost twice to KCB (40-15) and Nakuru RFC (16-5) and drawing 20-20 with Mwamba.

Pressure has been mounting on the Kabras technical bench of Mike Bishop and Anthony Ogot to turn their fortunes round after the poor start.

Key players for the hosts include Max Adaka, Nick Barasa, Edwin Achayo , Ronald Musaja, Brian Tanga and Malik Habil and the Fijian duo of Jone Kubu and John Navuso.

Assitant coach Anthony Ogot says the side have polished the mistakes which were evident during the first five games and have settled on a winning outfit after several lineup changes.

“We are under pressure. It has not been a good start to the season but we have sat down and analysed our mistakes. We are ready to turnaround the season,” says Ogot.

On their part the Ngong Road outfit lead the standings with 23 points after winning their opening five games of the season and for a hundred percent record.

Coach Charlie Cardovillis expects a tough match against a wounded Kabras. But he says he is ready for the game.

“We know we will be in for a big fight. Kabras have been up and down and trying to move up the table but we want to keep the momentum going and finish the season unbeaten,” says Cadovillis.

In the forwards Quins have the robust Dennis Mureithi signed from MTN Heathens in Uganda, Edward Oseko at hooker Herman Humwa and David Ohawo while in the backs skipper Patrice Agunda returns from injury to lead the side alongside Kenya Sevens sensation Frank Wanyama who starts at wing, scrumhalf Lyle Asiligwa and flyhalf Kevin Keegan.

In other fixtures Western Bulls travel to Jamhuri Park to face champions KCB, Blak Blad entertain Mean Machine at the Kenyatta University, winless Thika RFC meet Mwamba RFC at the Railway Cclub, resurgent Impala face Bungoma Sharks at Impala while Nakuru entertain Nondies at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

All the six matches will begin with a minute’s of silence in honour of Strathmore University captain and scrumhalf Geoffrey Githaiga who was killed in a motor accident last week.
