The Rusinga Festival thrills

The Rusinga Festival is an annual celebration of the Suba culture through music, sports, food, art, exhibitions, dances, fashion, stories and books.

The festival founded by Anne Eboso and now in its fourth year was hosted at the Rusinga Island, Homa Bay County in December.

This festival featured cultural performances, food, art and book exhibitions, a cultural pageant and workshops. There highlight of the event was the traditional wrestling known as Eminyiika. It's a tug of war for both men and women and a boat race on Lake Victoria.

There was a special tour of former minister Tom Mboya's mausoleum at Kasawanga Village on the north side of the island.

In attendance were former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, his wife Ida, Homa Bay First Lady Rocila Awiti, Homa Bay resident judge David Majanja and Pepfar country coordinator Katherine Perry.
