Two Nairobi county officials have told Senator Mike Sonko to apologise for accusing them of embezzling funds.

They are acting chief finance officer Luke Gatimu and Finance executive Gregory Mwakanongo who is also the acting county secretary.

On Monday, Sonko invited the press to accompany him and investigators to three buildings he said are being put up by the two.

He said: “The two have put up residential apartments in Ngumba and Doonholm estates. Mwakanongo is also putting up a palatial residence in the exclusive area of Karen.”

“This is only a few months after becoming the acting county secretary.”

The two told Sonko to substantiate his claims or keep quiet.

They said Sonko should present evidence to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the police instead of tarnishing their names.

Gatimu said: “Whatever he is claiming, I don’t know. It’s out of malice. I have been called by friends and relatives asking me what this is all about but I don’t know.

“Now I am being ridiculed as a public thief for something I don’t know.”
