Forty-two suspected members of the Mombasa Republican Council charged with holding an illegal meeting will know today if they will be released on bail.
The 42 were arrested on 31, at Tiwi area in Matuga constituency, Kwale county.
They appeared before resident magistrate Paul Mutai on Thursday last week and pleaded not guilty.
Yesterday, lawyer Pravin Bowry applied for adjournment until today when their regular lawyer will be present.
Bowry told the court lawyer Yusuf Abubakar was in Malindi for another case.
“This is a weighty matter. For the sake of justice, we need it to be heard when their lawyer is present,” he said.
They are charged with unlawfully taking part in assembly on December 31 last year at 10.30am at Tiwi in Kwale county.
They are also charged with being members of an organised criminal group.
The 42 suspects come from different parts of the Coast region, including Kilifi, Kwale and Mombasa.
They include Dorothy Kea, Khamisi Turufu, Binti Ndzumo and Hamadi Mwatondo.
State prosecutor Gorge Mungai said the prosecution is not opposed to adjournment of the case.
The judge ordered the accused be remanded at Kwale prison.
