The government will increase funding for exam fees to Sh3.4 billion in 2016 to help more students register, the Education CS has said.
Fred Matiang'i said this attributing a 5 per cent increase in the number of pupils who registered in 2015 to waived examination fees.
“The government spent Sh2.9 billion in 2015. We have seen a positive outcome so the amount will rise in the coming year,” Matiang'i said.
He spoke at Mtihani House in Nairobi on Wednesday when he announced the 2015 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exam results.
Matiang'i said President Uhuru Kenyatta will launch a curriculum review plan to guide comprehensive reforms of primary and secondary education.
He said the aim is to have a new approach to challenges experienced during national examinations. The last time a comprehensive curriculum review was carried out was in 1985.
Kenya National Examination Council chairman Kabiru Kinyanjui said funds are needed for the completion one of the three towers at new Mtihani House premises.
