MPs Ferdinand Waititu (Kabete) and Alice Ng'ang'a (Thika Town) have sued the Kiambu government over the Madaraka market arson.

The two want Governor William Kabogo to record statements with police over the November 22 incident in Makongeni, Thika town.

They also want Kabogo and his government restrained from evicting more than 5,000 traders from the market.

Justice Isaac Lenaola on Friday directed them to serve Kabogo with suit papers and appear in court on Monday.

The fire that destroyed the whole market was allegedly caused by parties in a drawn-out fight over the ownership of the land it sits on.

Traders said more than 200 goons in blue aprons at 2am and poured petrol on their goods before setting them on fire.

They said the attackers were ferried in more than eight vehicles whose number plates were hidden.

The incident allegedly occurred under the watch of police and county askaris in what the traders claimed was a ploy by the government for their eviction.
