CENTRAL Alego MCA Leonard Oriaro will table a censure motion against Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga over corruption allegations. Oriaro said the governor should step aside and wait for his name to be cleared.

He faulted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission for implicating two junior officers from the county in graft allegations and “leaving out the most corrupt.” Interim county secretary Kepha Marube and a procurement officer Zakayo Ojuok were mentioned alongside Rasanga in the EACC list of shame.

The politician said the two officials are not the masterminds of corruption in the county but are working for the interests of influential people in the governor’s office. “I will not relent in the fight against corruption,” said Oriaro.

He was addressing the press in Siaya town on Tuesday. The anti-graft agency released a list of 175 senior public officials and individuals it said it is investigating over corruption. Oriaro is the chairman of the Oversight and Implementation Committee in the county assembly.

He said Rasanga’s administration awards contracts to unqualified contractors who grease the palms of county bigwigs. Oriaro said Rasanga violated Public Procurement Act by approving the Sh22.5 million spent to construct a wooden block at the governor’s compound. He said a fence was erected around Rasanga’s office for Sh10.4 million.
