Move on Wekesa angers elders

A recent endorsement of Forestry minister Noah Wekesa to runfor Trans Nzoia county governor has elicited harsh reactions,   with a section of local leaders opposing themove. Elders from the Saboti  and Bukusu communities in the county yesterdaysaid they were angered by Kitale deputy mayor PiusKauka's endorsing of Wekesa . Wekesa, the Forestry and Wildlife and Kwanza MP, has declared interest in the seat.

Led by the Saboti  Supreme Council chairman and members LawranceKipsoi, Gregory Ngeywo, Martin Ngomat and MiachealoNdiwa, the elders said: ''It is wrong for anybody to endorse Wekesa as governor as he has a poordevelopment record in this constituency.'' The elders urged the resident to vote for fresh leadership, saying poor leadership is the cause of underdevelopmentin the region.

The elders said that thouh they stood for proper representationof all communities leaving in the region that did not mean that it should beshared among existing leaders. They challenged Wekesa to come out openly and tell residentswhat he had had done for over 20 years he has been in power.

The called on him to honorably retire from politics becauseof his age saying Wekesa had over stayed in power “This is a man who has been in power since 1980’s  and he is going to bring nothing new to thepeople ,”he said. They said the group that had endorsed Wekesa led by Kaukawere mere brokers who are looking for money with no interest of the communityat heart. Others who have declared interest in the same seat include  Samburu DC Geofrey Karagon,Kakai Bisau,Joel Gesuka Francis Khaemba and Cosmas Nabongolo.
