Herders from Daaba in Isiolo county have surrendered three AK 47 rifles and four rounds of ammunition to the police.

Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Musango, said the weapons were surrendered to the Multi-agency team conducting an operation.

He said another AK 47 with one bullet and a Magazine was also surrendered by a young man to the Daaba chief on Wednesday morning.

Musango attributed cases of insecurity in the area to the presence of firearms that are in the wrong hands.

He said those in possession of  the weapons use them to conduct bandit attacks and ambush motorists.

Musango said the government will pardon those who will surrender the illegal firearms.

He said the area lags behind in development due to insecurity.

The DCC warned politicians against inciting the youth to violence.

Musango said violence has created unnecessary tension among communities and will not be tolerated.

He said the government has sealed all banditry loopholes through the ‘maliza uhalifu’ operation.

Five camels that were stolen two weeks ago, have been recovered at Daaba and handed to the owners.

Musango said that the government will apply the ‘Modogashe declaration’ where criminals and their families will be forced to compensate victims four times the number of animals stolen as a penalty.
