The office of the Athi River MCA Jeremiah Kaloi has been closed indefinitely after it was reportedly raided and vandalised by suspected thieves at dawn on Tuesday.

Kaloi said he was forced to unceremoniously close down the offices located within Athi River Township in Mavoko, Machakos County following the incident.

He said the office couldn't remain operational after the incident since the suspects cut away with all office property.

They also removed the office's doors and went away with them.

"On the wee hours of Tuesday morning, unknown individuals raided my office and stole office equipment, chairs and the main door. The thieves also damaged any property they were unable to carry and made away with office documents alongside files," Kaloi told the Star on Wednesday.

Kaloi said it wasn't an isolated incident since the office had previously been raided on different occasions.

"However, the severity of this incident has left the office with no doors or equipment hence the need for its immediate closure pending a resolution by the Machakos County Assembly in liaison with the County Government of Machakos," Kaloi said.

The county legislator, however, noted that all services to the public remained on course advising the residents to reach out to his staffers on their phone numbers.

On the ongoing flood disaster in his ward among others, Kaloi said he will continue working with other leaders and governments, both national and county to support the affected households.

Kaloi mentioned Kwa Mang'eli, Kasuitu, Kinanie, among the most affected areas in his ward.

He urged residents living close to River Athi to move to safer grounds to avoid falling victim to the disaster.
