Limuru MP John Kiragu has tasked his CDF committee to visit all schools in the constituency to assess the flooding situation.

The legislator said many schools in the constituency experienced flooding and needed repairs for drainages and leaking roofs.

He also noted that some institutions' toilets had been filled with rainwater which could spread waterborne diseases if left unattended.

Kiragu was speaking at Nyoro Primary School in Limuru Central Ward where he met the school head, teachers and the board of management of the school.

He was accompanied by his CDF team, engineers and administrators.

The MP revealed that his CDF was a leading team in assessing the schools to come up with a strategy to improve them.

"As we wait for the rains to stop and the schools to reopen, we want to ensure the environment our children find will be conducive for learning," he said.

"We expect to move with speed to establish the most affected school. We do not want to see our children getting water or airborne diseases."

The legislator applauded President William Ruto for setting aside money to assist in repairing affected schools.

"The government stands with the victims of floods across the country. We will supply enough food and bedding besides offering a safe settlement to the 40,000 displaced households. We have also allocated Sh1 billion to rebuild schools so that our children can resume their studies in good time," Ruto said.

Ruto has also asked well-wishers to continue supporting the affected families hosted in camps, schools, churches and in their neighbourhood as the government does its best to support them.
