Kiambu county has given a new USSD code for all service payments

In a notice, Governor Kimani Wamatangi informed residents of the change and urged them to adapt to it for future transactions.

"The county government of Kiambu, under the leadership of Kimani wa Matangi, to enhance service delivery has changed the payment USSD code number from *419# to *476#. The adjustment is immediate."

In addition to the change in the USSD code, a new pay bill number, 4162022, has been introduced to streamline payments for the Kiambu community.

According to the county, the move aims to simplify transactions for various services such as quarry cess, market fees, and slaughter fees.

Kiambu has joined other counties in embracing digital payment solutions, reflecting a broader trend towards modernizing financial transactions within local administrations.

In Nairobi, payment for parking services, rent, business licences, fire services,  market fees, land rates, public health certification, development control, and social services are processed through NRS.

One can access the Nairobi Revenue System through nairobirevenueservices.go.ke or via the USSD code by dialling *647#.

In February, Nyamira county announced the end of cash payments for all services

"Starting this Friday, February 9,  all revenue services will be paid through the Safaricom line using USSD code *546#, Mpesa pay bill 004646,” the county stated.

Last year, President William Ruto introduced a new government pay bill, 222222, to ensure the National Treasury kept track of all services paid to the government.

This was part of the government's plan to digitise all services through the eCitizen platform.

Treasury Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u gazetted the portal to be the official government digital payment platform.

All payments for government services are progressively made through eCitizen.go.ke.

The official government pay bill number is 222222.

President Ruto said Kenyans should be able to pay for government services from the comfort of their homes without necessarily going to places physically.

He said digitisation is already making huge strides to seal loopholes in matters collecting tax.

Government payments going digital is a step aimed at increasing revenue collection, minimising the cost of collection and enhancing service delivery.
