Smartphone makers have turned to battery efficiency, privacy and design to attract consumers who are currently spending an average of 18 hours every day on phones.

In an interview with the Star Newspaper, Oppo Kenya product manager Earnest Eigut said customers are looking for time convenience, hence looking for electronic gadgets with better battery capacity.

"We have all these features in Oppo Reno8 T. The charging capacity is unmatched,'' Eigut said.

For the battery, the Oppo Reno8 T 5G features a 4,800mAh battery with the 8T 4G has a 5,000mAh battery.

By adopting 67W SUPERVOOCTM Flash Charge, Oppo claims the  Reno8 T 5G can charge the 4800mAh battery, up to 100 per cent in just 44 minutes, and a 5-minute charge is enough to enjoy 5.59 hours of phone calls or 3.56 hours of videos.

The device has taken advantage of the rising need for a better camera to boost its uptake featuring a 108MP camera, the first in the Reno series.

The Reno8 T 5G implements Oppo’s first 108MP Portrait Camera and also features the company’s exclusive 40x Microlens and a 2MP Depth Camera together with a 32MP Selfie Camera.

It utilizes NonaPixel Plus binning technology and AI Portrait Super Resolution, capturing ultra-clear, high-resolution images in any scenario.

The Microlens, the company notes provides 40x magnification for exceptional detail offering exceptional detail for users when exploring the microscopic world beyond the naked eye.

“The phone's screen is optimized for comfortable use with its slim bezels and hand-friendly curved design, making it ideal for watching movies and playing games without any distractions,'' Eigut said.

The Oppo Reno8 T 5G offers a range of portrait features including Selfie HDR, Bokeh Flare Portrait, and Dual-View Video which users can take advantage of.

“ The all-new Oppo Reno8 T continues to show our investment in capturing the benefits of technology for our consumers,” said Frederique Achieng PR manager, OPPO Kenya.

Oppo Reno  8T 5G sports a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,412 pixels) curved OLED display with up to 120Hz refresh rate, 93 percent screen-to-body ratio, and 360Hz touch sampling rate.

The 4G variant, on the other hand, features a 6.43-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display with up to 90Hz refresh rate.

This is even as the local market continues to record improved uptake of premium and midrange smartphones.

Kenyan's appetite for trendy devices has partly been attributed to social media influence that has seen younger wealthy Kenyans desire what is new in the global market.

Market insights company International Data Corporation (IDC) says that 2023 is set up to be a year of caution as vendors will rethink their portfolio of devices while channels will think twice before taking on excess inventory.

However, on a positive note, consumers may find even more generous trade-in offers and promotions continuing well into 2023 as the market will think of new methods to drive upgrades and sell more devices, specifically high-end models.
