26 schools for next week's inaugural Eliud Owalo tourney

Twenty-six teams have confirmed participation in next week's inaugural Eliud Owalo Foundation-sponsored schools tournament slated for Kisumu.

The two-day event will feature 13 top boys and 13 top girls’ schools from Kisumu County, Homa Bay County, Siaya County, Kisii County, Nyamira County and Migori County.

A total of 390 participants from Nyanza schools will take part in the competition set for Maseno School, Kisumu Girls, Kisumu Boys, and Kenyatta Sports Ground courts.

A three-day top six tournament involving the top six men and women's teams in the premier league is planned for May 10-14 at Nyayo National Stadium gymnasium.

The primary goals of these tournaments are to identify and nurture talent for potential recruitment and opportunities for academic sports scholarships.

" The Foundation aims to foster sports development, encourage healthy competition and unity, and provide a platform for aspiring athletes to showcase their skills through these tournaments.

Under the patronage of the ICT Cabinet Secretary, Eliud Owalo, the foundation has a long history of supporting sports teams and contributing to the development of sports in Kenya.

Notable contributions include the acquisition of a state-of-the-art bus for Gor Mahia FC, alongside sustained support for teams like AFC Leopards SC, Migori Youth FC, Shabana FC, and Muhoroni Youth FC. National basketball team Morans who are away in Tunisia for the AfroBasket qualifiers have also benefited.

Last week, the CS donated a pair of playing kits to the team. The foundation is committed to elevating lives and empowering futures through sports, including football, basketball, and rugby.

It also focuses on fostering sports development, encouraging healthy competition and unity, and providing platforms for aspiring athletes to showcase their skills.
