Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has asked Kenyans to respect those who were elected and give them a chance to work for the people.

The DP said the work done by the leaders should be measured once they have exhausted their term in office.

Gachagua was speaking during a fundraiser at Sacred Heart Endarasha Catholic Church, Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County on Sunday.

"The public will have an opportunity to interrogate the leaders' work and make a decision whether to renew their contract or terminate it when their term in office ends," he said.

Gachagua noted that for now, leaders should focus on toning down the political temperatures in the country.

"Let those who have an opportunity to serve be allowed to. The President has done his best and between one a half years things have started getting on track," the DP said.

The Deputy President said that he is a man of few words but a lot of action and he will communicate more through his actions.

Gachagua did not comment on the Limuru III Conference.

The church service was the first public appearance of the DP over a week.

Gachagua was accompanied by MPs Wainaina Chieni, (Kieni) Mugambi Rindikiri (Buuri), G.K. Ruku (Mbeere North), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), James Gakuya (Embakasi North), Benjamin Gathiru Mejja Donk (Embakasi Central), Dr. John Mutunga (Tigania West) and former Laikipia Woman Rep Cate Waruguru.
