Several people have been displaced in Isiolo after River Ewaso Nyiro burst its banks.

The Kenya Red Cross in a statement through their X handle on Friday said 708 households had been displaced in Merti North and South.

"708 households were displaced in Merti South and North in Isiolo after the River Ewaso Nyiro broke its banks," Red Cross said.

This has left a trail of destruction on nearby schools, businesses and critical health and sanitation facilities.

"The Kenya Red Cross will be registering affected families to provide emergency shelter and other essential items," KRC said.

The Ministry of Interior and National Administration in an update on Thursday said deaths as a result of floods in the country had risen to 291.

The ministry announced that 75 Kenyans were still missing while another 188 have so far sustained injuries.

A total of 55,631 households were displaced as per yesterday's report.

The ministry said that the heavy rains have so far impacted over 412,763 people.

The government said it has set up at least 187 camps across 25 counties.
