Ulinzi Starlets interim coach Clive Otieno remains resolute in their quest for a maiden Women's Premier League title.

Otieno is holding forte for head coach Joseph Wambua, who is unwell.

Starlets return to the hunt against Zetech Sparks on April 28 and Otieno targets a major shift.

They were hapless in their last outing, falling 4-0 to Kenya Police Bullets at Police Sacco Stadium on March 13.

Otieno is also keen on winning the FKF Cup for the third consecutive year. They are in the Round of 16 following a 6-0 whitewash of TUK Ravens in February.

“We are still in the WPL race. I am still banking on us winning the league. We are also confident of defending our Cup,” he said.

Starlets are second in the standings with 29 points, eight behind Bullets.

Otieno plans to eliminate complacency and nervousness in his squad as witnessed against Bullets.

“We were a bit complacent against Bullets. The players were also nervous before the game,” he noted.

“I was not expecting the defensive errors we made. We know the areas we need to improve. We will work on them before our next match.”

The team's concentration lapses were evident as they conceded early goals in both halves, prompting Otieno to emphasise the importance of staying focused.

"Our concentration levels were wanting, especially at the beginning of each half. In a fast-paced game, such lapses are costly," Otieno said.

He hopes to have Keziah Ngaira, a forward, and utility player Diana Shakava back from the treatment table before they face Sparks.

“I hope our injured players are back before the next league match. This will give a boost. There are still four more games left. We can turn it around,” he stated.
