Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) deputy president Paul Bitok has promised to make his stand known following public uproar over the selection of the national women’s team’s technical bench.

Bitok was named assistant coach and will deputise head coach Japheth Munala.

He said his intention has always been to conclude his coaching career with Malkia Strikers after the Paris Olympics Games in a bid to facilitate a smooth transition.

He said he would consult stakeholders in the sports industry before issuing a conclusive statement on Friday.

“ I had earlier indicated that I will be finishing my career as Malkia strikers’ coach after Paris Olympics in a bid to pave the way for a smooth transition in the team and also end my eight years program with the team.”

He thanked the volleyball fraternity for the continued support and promised to address concerns regarding the technical team selection.

Bitok highlighted his previous successes, including securing Olympic tickets in 2020 and now in 2024. He acknowledged the challenges during their journey to Paris qualification and outlined his commitment to the team.

He said: “After joining the team from Rwanda, where I was the national team head coach, I achieved good results which included two tickets to the Olympics in 2020 and now 2024.”

KVF President Charles Nyaberi has denied claims of biased selection, noting that everything was done above board through a secret ballot. Nyaberi, who has been named team manager, has been criticised following the changes.
