AK push back dates for the national championships

AK will use the event to select a team to represent the country during the Africa Senior Championships set for June 15-22 in Douala, Cameroon.

Athletics Kenya has pushed back the Kenya National Championships originally set for Thursday to Saturday this week ( May 16-18).

In a statement, AK explained that the change was necessitated due to unforeseen circumstances.

"AK National Championships which were scheduled to be held from May  16-18 at The Nyayo Stadium has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances," the statement read in part.

 AK will use the event to select a team to represent the country during the Africa Senior Championships set for June 15-22 in Douala, Cameroon.

Additionally, AK announced that the venue for the national event has been relocated from Nyayo Stadium to the Ulinzi Sports Complex.

"The event which will also serve as Trials for Africa Senior Athletics Championships, will now be held on May 21-22 2024 at Ulinzi Sports Complex, Langata Road, Nairobi," the statement went on.

At the African Championships, Kenya will be aiming to defend the overall title, secured last year in Saint Pierre, Mauritius, with a total of 23 medals, including 10 gold, five silver, and eight bronze.

African racewalk champions Samuel Gathimba and Emily Ngii are poised to defend their titles and they are both confident of putting on spectacular performances at both the national and African Championships.
